SQL Server 2016 CTP2 では、
Multiple TempDB Databases
Setup adds multiple tempdb data files during the installation of a new instance. Below are the pertinent details to consider:
By default, setup adds as many tempdb files as the CPU count or 8, whichever is lower.
You can configure the number of tempdb database files using the new command line parameter- /SQLTEMPDBFILECOUNT. It can be used for unattended and interactive installations.
という対応が行われています。
これにより、インストール時に tempdb のデータファイルの数が自動調整されるようになり、CPU コア数に応じて最大で 8 ファイルまで自動に設定が行われるようになっています。 
一番ユニークだと思ったのは Polybase でしょうか。 
機能として Polybase を追加することができるのですが、この場合 Java (JRE 7 Update 51 以上) が必要となります。
# Polybase を使用する場合 「_SC」の照合順序が使えないようですので注意しておいた方がよさそうですね。 
データベースエンジン回りではほかに目立った箇所はなさそうでしたが、インストールの段階からちょいちょい見ておくことはありそうですね。
